 Mavericks win NBA Championship

By Jake Morgan.

The Dallas Mavericks have completed a dramatic season beating the Miami Heat in game six of the NBA finals 105-95 to win the franchise' first NBA championship.

The two remaining players from Dallas' 06' finals loss to the Miami Heat, Jason Terry and Dirk Nowitski lead the Mavs in the final quarter to hold off a late charge from the Heat in front of a sold out American Airlines Arena.
Terry had a game high 27 points, Nowitski had 10 of his 21 points in the fourth quarter while  Miami superstars Dwayne Wade and Lebron James had just 8 points combined in the final term.
Mavericks celebrate With NBA Trophy.

The result has further raised questions about James' ability to come up clutch in tight games, while his Miami teamates in particuarly Chris Bosh were left tearing heading in to the locker room.
The Championship is bitter sweet for Mavericks 17 year veteran point guard Jason Kidd, who triumphd in his 3rd appearence in the NBA finals.
Kidd reveald in a post game interview that he has 2 maybe 3 years remainining in the league. If Kidd were to retire a handy replacment would be current guard JJ Barea. Barea who finished with 15 points and 5 assists terroized the Heat defence all series long with superb dribble penetration and was excellent defensively in game 7.

Ultimately the gritty backbone of the Mavericks was too much for the slender Heat to control and emotionally Dallas had the more accomplished team, seeing the series gradually pull away from the favourites. The veteran Mavericks squad were more composed in the crucial moments. In game two the Mavs rallied from double digits down late in the match to win, and games 4 and 5 came down to the final minutes before seeing Dallas earn the win.

Unheralded players Tyson Chandler and Shawn Marion were solid, each grabbing 8 rebounds and totaling a combined 20 points.Guard Deshawn Stevenson was again efficient shooting 3-5 from 3pt range.

Mavs coach Rick Carlisle won his first NBA championship while Heat coach Erik Spoelstra fended off talk about his teams stars not turning up in the crucial moments and gave praise to the Mavericks' defence.
The result of the final game reiterates the message that a champion team beats a team of champions.
Finals MVP Dirk Nowitski.

For Dallas the future looks secure. Dallas were without forward Caron Butler for the entire finals series and several young players emerged throughout the finals. A back to back championship is not out of the cards while arguably the best player in the world, Dirk Nowitski runs the floor.

However Miami's future is less secure. The big three were good throughout the season but weren't good enough. The dilemma of who gets the ball will be an ongoing issue and a lack of team chemistry and cohesion was exposed against Dallas. Expect changes around the superstars and a mass cleanout of frustrated bench warmers such as House and Ilgauskis.
The season finale was spectacular with the team 95% of people wanted to win won. Congratulations to Mark Cuban and the Dallas Mavericks on the franchise's first NBA championship... One of many to come!
